Sustainability and Chicago Biofuels
Our Core Mission
Sustainability and clean energy development in cities and other areas, where population is concentrated, looks far different than the large-scale clean energy initiatives and industrial-scale development often written and spoke about at high levels. Much of the innovation in clean energy is cities is as much centered on new technology deployment as it is on using the resources here in a more organized way. This means increasing efficiencies, re-organizing the methods of materials handling, utilizing the well-built buildings already constructed, and implementing the scientific development that is possible with the abundance of vacant land. Many aspects of this developments ties in directly to what is being attempted in our rural areas. These efforts can be found connected through the work with degraded soils, rejuvenating our workforce—our young adults looking for meaningful work in a supportive and communal setting—R&D around materials management, as well as innovative and novel approaches to the use of these materials. There’s a whole world waiting to be created around workforce development coupled with sustainable and clean energy development.
Chicago Biofuels has dedicated a large amount of time to outreach in the matters listed above. Whether it has been teaching high school aged student how to make 500 mL of biodiesel, to working with the only collegiate biofuels program of its kind in the country for many years, to supporting research in the areas of soil health and producing uncontaminated seed oil from contaminated soils. Chicago Biofuels has also worked directly in the area of collecting, handling and logistically supporting the movement of millions of gallons of used cooking oil and other liquid agricultural commodities. Chicago Biofuels has experienced and understands what it takes to increase the use of clean energy at a granular level. This works has the led the company to apply its clean energy experience regionally and nationally on small but increasing scales.
Our shift to new scales of trade, economy, workforce development and scientific innovation has only just begun. This work needs all hand on deck. It needs ties between urban and rural communities. It needs domestically based partnerships that are rooted in honest collaboration, respect and loyalty. We here at Chicago Biofuels are dedicated to these principles when we are conducting ourselves in the areas of clean energy creation, sustainable development and community relationship building. We welcome the opportunity to work with anyone and any company that embraces the type of work mentioned above.
